South Island Mt Hutt trip

20/08/08

Great training today! Everyone up for an early run at 5:15 am. Breakfast (french toast with peaches and whipped cream) followed at 5:45 and a 6:00 departure for the slopes. The morning began with 7:30 - 8:45 super G freeski then straight into ...

August 26th.  Another day off.  The weather just is not cooperating right now!  Good for a sleep in - dryland and travel waxing skis that won't be used any more.

August 25th.   Day off.  Weather just not flash.  All kids headed off to Antarctic Centre in Christchurch thanks to the parents.  Penquins, Snow Cats and weather similiar to what we had here this past Sunday!  Needless to say they all enjoyed the day and after a tiny bit of retail therapy, they headed home to rest up for the next day's races.  Just to note, information was passed on that the tire was well and truly taken care of before heading back up.  Well done.  The J.M.C. Pit Crew took a well earned mornings R&R.  That means Rest and Relax, not re-wax and re-edge!  (Please see official results change below for Nicole Whitehead.)

August 24, 9:46 am.  J.M.C. Pit Crew was busy again the night before and spent another 6 hours each getting those skis perfected.  Up early and out the door again.  This time a clean run to the top of the mtn.  (Hmm, did they get the flat tire fixed?)  Due to foggy conditions, the Super Combined has been switched to 2 one run Slaloms for K1's and 2 combined Slaloms for K2's.  I will update again later today as the results will be emailed directed to me when they are available. The weather was really foggy but still some great results:

1st Run K1 - Nicole Whitehead 2nd, Lauren Armstrong 5th,

2nd Run K1 - Nicole Whitehead 4th, Lauren Armstrong 5th

Combined Runs K2 - Bronte Marquet 2nd, Ellen Dixon 7th, Amy Dixon 15th, Julie Whitehead DSQ

1st Run K1 - River Jones Gardner 2nd, Hamish Walton 5th, Harry Eisenhut 7th

2nd Run K1 - River Jones Gardner 1st, Harry Eisenhut 8th, Hamish Walton 11thW

Combined Runs K2 - John Knowles 3rd, Robert Armstrong DNF 1st run, Jamie Green DNF 1st run, Harry Hull DNF 2nd run,  Harry Izard Price DSQ

Weather doesn't look that flash for the next 2 days.  Wait and see!

August 23.   RACE DAY!  Super G was all 'ON".  The night before the race, John, Mike and Canaan spent 8 hours each tuning all the skis.  It was an early start and up the hill they headed when...disaster struck!  Flat tire!  On race day!  No problem for the Formula One  J.M.C. pit crew team.  They had the wheel changed in 12 minutes - this was a timed event.  The ski field conditions and weather were good and everyone raced.  RESULTS:

K1 - Lauren Armstrong 9th, Nicole Whitehead 10th

K2 - Bronte Marquet 3rd, Ellen Dixon 4th, Amy Dixon 12th, Julie Whitehead 16th, Chelsea Bostock 18th,

K1 - Hamish Walton 10th, River Jones Gardner 13th, Harry Eisenhut 14th

K2 - Robert Armstrong 1st, Jamie Green 4th, Harry Izard-Price 8th, John Knowles 9th, Harry Hull 12th,

!August 22.  Day off today.  The weather was not good and the mountain did not open.  So, they made the best of it and had a little bit of fun - go carts and swimming!  Nice and relaxed ready for the following day of racing!  Sweet dreams!

August 21, 10:00 pm.  Up early at the usual time of 5:15 am.  Breakfast was french toast topped with bacon and eggs.  It was a bluebird day and everyone was anxious to get out on the mountain.  Training started with SG and finished with some impressive slalom skiing by all.  The Austrian team was up there training which provided them all with some exciting fast skiing and awesome big air to watch.  Inspiring!

August 20, 10:00 pm.   Great training today!  Everyone up for an early run at 5:15 am.  Breakfast (french toast with peaches and whipped cream) followed at 5:45 and a 6:00 departure for the slopes.  The morning began with 7:30 - 8:45 super G freeski then straight into 2 hours of GS gate training.  Lunch at 11:30 and back down the mountain at 12:15.  1:00 - 5:00  the kids were into dryland recovery and ski tuning.  And, that was a wrap!  A really successful day.

August 19, 10:00 am.  Today there was a delayed opening on the mouintain so the team has decided to make this their day off rather than waiting till later in the week.  Wednesday thru Friday looks like good training weather.  They will be taking advantage of that.  Spirits are high and I could hear a lot of happy chatter in the background!  Hello from the kids!

August 18, 5:00 pm.  Kids all had a great afternooon with GS freeski.  Currently they are all doing recovery and stretching exercises.  Following that will be ski tuning, and then dinner at 6pm.  The athletes will then head to their rooms at 8:30, with lights out at 9:00 sharp!  They will be up at 5:45 for an early start.  8:00am is GS freeski them straight into GS gates from 10:00 - 12:00.  Everyone is happy and enjoying themselves!

August 18, 11:00 am  Due to a delay in ferry service, the team vans were later than anticipated getting to their detination.  With a midnight arrival, it was 'quick, into bed everyone' . There was a little sleep in the next morning followed by training in the afternoon.  Everyone was in great spirits and looking forward to the sking!  Great job transporting everyone there John, Canaan and Mike!  This site will be updated on a daily basis.  Stay tuned!!
