June update: start dates etc..
17/06/10
Programme start dates - We do not start the programme on Saturday morning so that families can have a less stressful start to the season and trip to the mountain. So we have scheduled a general meeting and meet the coaches’ social Saturday afternoon July 3rd 3:30 pm at the Powderhorn, Ohakune. This is for all skiers and boarders and their families training at both Whakapapa and Turoa. Yes we do risk missing a potentially good day of training, but you can still enjoy it on your own.
The on snow programme starts July 4th.
Turoa - Meet 9am at Turoa Alpine Café. Bring all essentials to ski or board and for all weather conditions. If the road is closed meet 10am at the Ruapehu College gym. Please bring indoor gym gear including clean non marking shoes and a water bottle.
Whakapapa - Meet 9am at Bottom Centennial Chair. Bring all essentials to ski for all weather conditions. If the road is closed meet 10am at the Chateau Tongariro golf course. Please bring outdoor running and hiking gear, rain jacket, water bottle and lunch.
Registrations – The registration deadline has now past.. Registration, full payment and completed code of conduct and medical consent forms form the full registration process. These must be received before the programme commences. Unfortunately we cannot accept anyone into the programme without full registration including all forms.
Make up training – We have come up with a way for our athletes to get more time and snow and catch up on missed days in the regular programme. During one or possibly two weeks during the season we will schedule mid week training. There is one week planned at Turoa August 16 – 19, with another week to be tentatively planned at Whakapapa. This will be open to everyone in the programme regardless of what side of the mountain you train on or if you ski or board. There will be no extra charge for coaching, but we will be organizing optional club accommodation, food and supervision at an extra cost. More details will be made available during the first week of school holidays.
South Island trips – Plans are being made to present South Island trips to you during the first week of the school holidays.
Help your child’s coach – We will be committing to spending at least four hours per day on non skiing days or partial ski days due to weather. It would help your child’s coach if you can participate in finding alternative activities. Please bring your ideas.
High Noon Express – The prospects of the damaged High Noon Express being repaired with 4 weeks looks positive. Please see latest news release http://www.mtruapehu.com/winter/ral-detail/index.cfm/articleId/2025/
Communication – The central communication channel is between the athlete, coach and parents. Please see the communication flowchart overview as it relates to athlete needs, programme and club topics. More will be discussed in information meetings.
Code of Conduct – This form has been modified and updated to include parents. It is included in the registration package, but it is also available online http://www.ruapehusport.com/sports/CodeOfConduct/
Parent Information Days – There will be several parent information days planned throughout the season. The first is scheduled for 3:30pm July 10th at Ruapehu College, Ohakune. If we are not skiing that day it will be 11am at the same location. The following information session will be held at Whakapapa July 31st times and location to be announced.
