Events

A new plan is in place to get in all the races this season.  For the person who is not familiar with the complexity of scheduling and running sanctioned races it would seem strange that it is so difficult to re-schedule lost races.  Why can’t we just have a race? - is a common question we hear.  To overcome this we have organized a simplified structure of running races if we lose sanctioned races to weather.  These alternative races would not be sanctioned, and will be of a club nature.  Simplified timing, hand timing and gate judging would still be in place to ensure a fair race.  National points would not be collected, but we would still hold races.

Freestyle News

This year we will have a Full Time snowboard team training at Turoa. There are five athletes in the program and will work around their study time and the weather to maximize their time on snow.

Snow Sports NZ have been working with the Free ski Association and Snowboard Union to come up with a national points system and progression cards to help up and coming riders and skiers to perform at a national and international level www.snowsports.co.nz

Communications

Ruapehu Sport and Ruapehu Snow Sports are currently discussing ways to improve communications; such as who communicates what information and how.  Also, many parents don’t understand who to go to for certain matters.  We hope to clarify that for everyone.

Also, many people don’t know when is a good time to discuss individual matters with coaches, programme coordinators or director.  Because of this people make failed attempts at dropping in to see if it is a good time, or worse issues left unattended to.  To improve this we have set a time that is good to meet, which is Saturday at 3pm each weekend.  It is up to the individual to contact the coach, coordinator or director to set up a time.  We will not automatically be available, but will set that time aside each week to families to take advantage of.

School Holiday Training

What to bring – Slalom skis for good and poor conditions.  Early season conditions may be present.  Bring a variety of under layers, gloves, mitts and face masks for all types of weather.
Dryland gear to include clean and dry non marking sole shoes.  Also as water bottle, track pants or shorts mandatory.  Jeans are not permitted.
