On-Snow Objectives:

This is a full time programme that is starting this year.  This is a comprehensive full time programme that balances training, competition and in the future an academic programme. This program currently requires that athletes have independent academic structures that allow for a flexible schedule for the ski season.

An optimal learning environment involves a training schedule that allows for frequent, but short sessions.  This program plans for five three hour on snow sessions per week and several fitness sessions. Training will occur at Whakapapa and Turoa based on snow conditions, logistics and locations relative to where athletes are based.

The athletes in this program have considerable experience. Their needs are individual depending on their skills and their annual training plans.  Long term development remains a primary objective, however, race preparation is also an important part of these athletes’ training.

Athletes in this selected program attend Regional races in the North Island as schedules permit. Athletes in this program will attend an extended FIS race schedule in the South Island. In 2008 J athletes will be permitted to race in the K Nationals held at Turoa.

Off-Snow Objectives:

Fitness is an integral part of the programme.  This is to create awareness of fitness and how it relates to ski racing, and also for it to enhance the skills required by the athlete.  Active use of, and access to, video footage is provided to complement skills and memory. Special trips are planned to develop teamwork using fun activities. Off snow activities are partially weather driven, but primarily scheduled.

Academic Objectives:

There are two schools in the region that can cater for the students academic needs. Ruapehu College and National Park School.

Pricing will be available in March of 2010.
