Entry Programme
Every other weekend during term 3 and all holidays either side of term 3. Programmes begin July 5th and end October 10th. There is also an option for every weekend during term 3 and the holidays.
Requirements:
· Aged 8 – 10, born years 2000 – 2002
· SRNZ entry level license. www.skiracing.org.nz
· Confident skier that can do parallel turns on intermediate terrain
· Reasonably independent in the mountain environment
Equipment:
· Skis – No National minimum requirement
Recommended length is between chin and forehead
One pair of skis is adequate
Easy to turn (slalom or hybrid preferred over GS)
· Boots - Junior boots with 2-4 buckles (Avoid rear entry)
· Ski Poles - Proper length
· Goggles – Properly fitted
· Helmet - CSA approved with full shell ear cover.
On-Snow Objectives:
Being a weekend programme, the main objective is spend as much time on snow as possible each day. At this level we are introducing athletes to ski racing which involves establishing a technical skiing base, safely challenging abilities, exploring the mountain, learning race rules and of course attend some races in the North Island.
Off-Snow Objectives:
To create an awareness of fitness and how it relates to ski racing. Enhance skills using tools like video. Develop teamwork and fun activity. Off snow activities are primarily weather driven.
