School Programme

On snow and academics are managed over a 5 days mid week during term three at either ski area. (Complete schedule in progress). This programme caters for children attending Ohakune Primary or National Park School. It is designed as an introduction to the racing and freestyle and a stepping stone to full time training which includes weekends and holidays.

 

Requirements:

·         7 -12yr olds , born 1997-2002

·         Confident skier that can do parallel turns on advanced terrain

·         Independent in the mountain environment

·         Registration deadline December 1st 2008. Late fee of $300 after the 1st of Dec.

 

            Equipment:

·         Skis  - One pair of skis are required.

·         Boots - Good fitting boots. Rear-entry not recommended.

·         Ski Poles - Proper length.

·         Goggles - Properly fitted.  No gap for cold days.

·         Helmet - Secure fitting helmet. Preferably with hard ears.

 

On-Snow Objectives:

 

Similar to the weekend development programme, these athletes are learning how to ski at a high level with a goal of competing in ski racing and freestyle events.  The children in this programme are at an advantage with the mountain so close to school. This allows 3 mornings of skiing a week with school for the rest of the day. This will involve improving their technical skiing base, and tactical skills. 

 

Academic Objectives:

This program is run in conjunction with the National Park School and Ohakune Primary.  The school's provide term 3 curriculums up to year 8.

Note:

Costs do not SRNZ/FIS license fee, travel, personal equipment, season pass or other fees. RAL and Ruapehu Sport reserve the right to cancel any programme prior to July 4th, 2008. In any such event all fees will be refunded.

 

            Insurance will be offered.  This is for pro-rated refunds due to illness or injury that restricts the athlete from                                       participating in the programme for a significant part of the season.  Exact requirements and wording will be                                         provided later, such as needing a valid medical certificate.
